From the beginning of 2019, I followed Kanye West's journey through free music, providing good Sunday vibes and gatherings for the California community. Like him or not, the rap legend turned sneaker mogul and these productions will go down in history as another unexpected twist on his genius journey.
I learned a lot about megachurches that day & how they operate. Coming from a small traditional baptist church background, it was nice to see a small glimpse into the inner workings of a mega church.
Surfing the internet at 2 am, I found the above flyer for a Sunday Service in Atlanta. I wondered the validity of this post and the possibility of attending, so I began researching and diving deeper. To my liking, I found an email with rehearsal times for the choir, drove 45 mins to the destination and BOOM 💥. I was in.
Seeing Kanye there early setting up, making sure everyone was in place & being able to organize so many people in a city that he’s not from was incredible to me. There was a very inspiring and thrilling energy to be around, a great team to be apart of for that day ⚡️. I filmed some of the BTS to show the inner workings of a performance like this.

More than anything, I saw the production & connection building efforts that go into these productions for God/ to raise the energy....I think that’s dope. The entire time I sat there, I realized that the church was a vessel that was ready for such a large event; from the sound, to the space, down to the camera's, lights, and ultra HD screens.
After a brief word from IV Hilliard's controversial sermon, and a few songs from the New Birth ministry, the moment had finally come. The performance itself was cold👏🏽. He played a few selections of the Sunday Service album and ended the set with a few beats from his MPC. It didn’t go completely as planned, and I was torn between going to sing with the rest of the choir & enjoying from the stands. I decided to experience both. I saw many familiar faces & that made the experience more personal 🤝.
I was salty my camera was spotty & my phone battery was low, however I still managed to capture some useful media 📸 #FirstWorldProblems Thankfully, the entire service was live-streamed through New Birth Missionary Church. You can watch the entire service here.
